BMI Calculator

One of the first questions we’ll ask you is about your Body Mass Index (BMI). We do this over the phone or by email, when you first inquire about booking a consultation with Dr. Edelstein for a cosmetic surgical procedure (not a non-surgical procedure). There are a few reasons why we do this:

  1. Patients who fall within the normal BMI range are typically better suited to surgery. The possibility of related complications occurring is dramatically reduced, making the surgery safer for you.
  2. Numerous studies have shown that better results are achieved when patients are within the normal BMI range.
  3. We ask for your BMI at the time of booking to prevent wasting your time and money. We don’t want you to come in during your busy day and pay for the consultation, but then realize that you’re not a suitable candidate for surgery because of your BMI.

SPECIAL NOTE:

Patients with a BMI of less than 25 in the normal range are considered to be ideal candidates. However, if you are a body builder, very muscular, or have lost more than 100lbs, a BMI of less than 30 may also be acceptable.
