How To Prepare For Liposuction

As you start signing documents and moving closer to your liposuction procedure appointment, you are probably excited and ready to see the new you. But, before you get too excited, there are some things you need to do to prepare yourself for your upcoming appointment.

Get all medical testing done.

Your surgeon will request that you have labs performed prior to your appointment. It is essential that you follow through with getting the lab work done. If you do not, you may not be able to have the surgery performed.

Listen to and understand the instructions.

Make sure that you are listening to all of the doctor’s instructions as he or she will tell you what to expect, how to prepare, and how to care for your incision site. If you do not understand something, now is the time to ask. You do not want to keep your mouth shut and wind up in the hospital with an infection.

Stop smoking, if you do.

If you smoke, you need to quit at least two weeks prior to your scheduled procedure. Once you have had the procedure performed, you will need to avoid smoking for at least a month following. Now is a good time to kick the habit altogether.

The reason you need to stop smoking is because it can cause problems with surgery itself, which means you face more complications.

Lose weight BEFORE the appointment.

Don’t use liposuction as your source for losing weight. In fact, the procedure is not used for this and if you need to lose any weight, do it now and do not waste any more time. If you do not get down to or within range of your goal weight, your results will be less than ideal.

Prepare for follow-up care.

Since you will likely not want to head to the store after your surgery, make sure you receive a copy of the follow-up instructions and purchase the items you need beforehand. If you do not, you may need to make a midnight run for some supplies and trying to walk around while sore is not fun.

Make sure you make arrangements for transportation.

Liposuction is usually performed on an outpatient basis, but you may not be able to drive after the procedure, nor would you want to. Make sure that you have a ride standing by when you are released.

Have loose fitting clothes on hand.

Wearing low rider, tight jeans is not going to be your thing for a little while. Make sure that you have some comfortable and light fitting clothes by your side. Items such as t-shirts and sweatpants work wonders.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that takes planning and it helps to be 100 percent prepared for your big day. If you are ready to discuss your liposuction options or you want to see if you would make a good fit for the procedure, call the team at Edelstein Cosmetic today.
