How to erase wrinkles, creases and saggy facial contours
A liquid facelift, or Soft Lift®, is a simple injection treatment that holistically treats a patient’s entire face, rather than targeting individual wrinkles or lines. A Soft Lift® employs BOTOX Cosmetic® and Juvéderm® together in a single procedure to create exceptional, natural results
What is A liquid facelift, or Soft Lift®?
It’s an ideal treatment option for patients seeking the correction of forehead lines, under eye hollows, crow’s feet, frown, smile, marionette (mouth corners) or smoker’s lines and the loss of cheek or lip volume. A Soft Lift® can lift the brow and reduce a loss of jawline firmness as well.
The treatment is suitable for patients of any age and can be tailored to best suit the unique requirements of anyone, providing the benefits they desire through a single session. A Soft Lift® also offers great results without any recovery downtime
AREAS OF THE FACE YOU CAN TREAT WITH A LIQUID FACELIFT
THE UPPER FACE
BOTOX® is able to safely relax facial muscles, while Juvéderm® can further help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles (particularly those that are very defined). The products are able to smoothen frown lines between the eyebrows as well as eliminate crow’s feet and horizontal forehead lining. Once this has been accomplished the patient looks more relaxed and better rested.
THE MID FACE
Juvéderm® is used to reduce lines, wrinkles and to plump thinning or sagging areas of the face. The injectable gel is made up of hyaluronic acid (a substance naturally created by the body) and is able to provide safe, natural looking results for up to a full year. In a Soft Lift®, Juvéderm® is used to fill in smile lines and provide volume to the lips and cheeks.
THE LOWER FACE
Juvéderm® improves the shape and contour of a patient’s jawline while also treating any remaining lines or thinning affecting this area of the face.
A liquid facelift can address the visible signs of aging whether they are caused by intrinsic or extrinsic factors.
INTRINSIC AND EXTRINSIC AGING
Researchers have found that there are two types of aging: intrinsic (internal) aging and extrinsic (external) aging.
The rate at which intrinsic aging is determined primarily by your genes. This natural aging process normally starts in your 20s. The processes within skin that change with intrinsic aging include a slowing of collagen and elastin production, decreased cellular regeneration, loss of underlying fat and the slowing of exfoliation (shedding of the uppermost layer of the skin, which is generally comprised of dirt, debris and dead skin cells).
The signs of intrinsic aging are the following: hair loss and graying hair, dry skin, thin and transparent skin, hollowed cheeks, wrinkles, sagging skin and the weakening of bones (which contributes to sagging contours and a gaunt appearance). Although these changes usually begin in our 20s, for the majority of people the signs of intrinsic aging are not noticeable for many years. Your skin becomes weaker and less supple with these changes, and your complexion becomes riddled with pigmentation and textural irregularities.
Extrinsic aging is caused by factors that are outside of you, namely in your environment. These factors include sun exposure, gravity, lifestyle habits, smoking and repeated facial expressions.
Sun exposure is the number one contributor to extrinsic aging and is known as photoaging. Sun exposure can lead to wrinkles, loose skin, age spots, spider veins on the face, freckles, rough and leathery skin and skin cancer. Repeated ultraviolet exposure breaks down collagen and elastin and slows the production of new collagen. The rate at which photoaging affects you depends on your skin colour and the amount of time you’ve spent in the sun over your lifetime. For example, people with fair skin tend to develop more signs of photoaging than those with dark skin. To prevent premature aging caused by the sun, you should avoid tanning, stay out of the sun between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., wear protective clothing and apply sunscreen year round. Choose a sunscreen with SPF of 30 or higher, and use it even on cloudy days.
As we age, changes related to gravity become more pronounced. Due partially to the downward pull of gravity, the ears elongate, the eyelids droop, the tip of the nose sags and jowls form.
Smoking can also speed up the aging process. Studies have shown that cigarette smoking significantly increases skin wrinkles and dryness because of the inhalation of carbon monoxide. By stopping smoking, these signs can be reduced.
The extrinsic and intrinsic signs of aging that is visible on your skin can be addressed with a healthy lifestyle, exercise regimen, and BOTOX Cosmetic®.

Your consultation is an important part of your treatment process. You’ll meet with our injectables specialist who will talk to you about your concerns. They’ll assess your facial features and the areas of concern, then suggest the most suitable course of treatment.
PREPARING FOR YOUR TREATMENT
Adequately preparing your body for treatment allows you to minimize undesirable side effects and shorten your recovery period, so that you can see your results sooner. Some things that you can do to prepare for your Soft Lift™ include the following:
1. Avoid taking any medications or supplements that increase your risk of bruising or bleeding, such as Aspirin, vitamin E and St. John’s Wort.
2. Don’t perform any strenuous physical exercises on the day of your treatment, as this can increase your risk of bruising.
3. If you have inflammation or an infection in the area to be treated, you’ll probably need to reschedule your appointment. This may also refer to sunburns.
4. You may take Arnica Montana supplements before your treatment, as this has been found to improve the recovery rate. Ask us if this can help for you.
5. Don’t apply makeup before your treatment as you’ll need the injection areas to be clean.
A numbing cream can be applied if necessary.
The target areas will be marked.
The Soft Lift® procedure begins with the application of BOTOX®. BOTOX® reduces the appearance of any lines surrounding your eyes or affecting the forehead, eliminating the angry or tired expression associated with the aging process. Juvéderm® is then used to minimize creases and lines around your mouth. This filler is also applied to the cheeks, lips and chin in order to restore any lost fullness. Both BOTOX® and Juvéderm® work together to help revitalize the upper, mid and lower areas of the face.
FOLLOWING YOUR TREATMENT
You’ll probably see an improvement right after your treatment, however swelling and bruising may soon hide it. Continue to refrain from taking any medications that increase the risk of bruising. Activities that have the same effect and can also contribute to swelling, such as vigorous physical activity and drinking alcohol, should be avoided for a couple of days. If you experience any discomfort, Tylenol may be taken.
It is important that you don’t touch your face after your treatment, as this can increase the risk of product displacement and migration.
Once the swelling and bruising have gone away, you’ll be able to see your optimal results. You’ll enjoy a subtly enhanced, more youthful and wholly refreshed appearance that has been achieved without surgery.
