The difference between a full and mini tummy tuck can often be confusing for men and women exploring their options for a Toronto tummy tuck.

As the name implies, a mini tummy tuck is a less invasive procedure than a full tummy tuck.

However, one of the most common misconceptions among patients is that the term ‘mini’ simply implies that the incision is smaller than with a full tummy tuck. In actuality, the term, “mini tummy tuck “ refers to a procedure that addresses slightly different concerns and accomplishes different things. With a Mini, a small amount of excess skin from the lower abdomen is removed without making an incision around the belly button or tightening any skin above the belly button.Since a mini tummy tuck specifically targets loose skin in the lower abdominal area, is it typically best suited for those who are struggling with bulging or lax skin below the navel only. The typical candidates for a mini abdominoplasty or, tummy tuck, are those who have a small, protruding pouch or wrinkled skin in the lower belly following pregnancy or fluctuating weight.

During a mini tummy tuck, even though the belly button is not targeted at all, it often ends up with a more pleasing shape as the skin beneath it is tightened during the procedure.A full Toronto tummy tuck, on the other hand is a more invasive and complicated procedure which can produce much more dramatic results.

During a full tummy tuck, excess fatty tissue, wrinkly or loose skin as well as separated abdominal muscles are all addressed. Unlike a mini tuck, the procedure is not restricted to the lower abdomen and can correct lax skin and fat deposits as well as separated muscles in the upper abdominal area as well.During the procedure, weakened abdominal muscles are tightened together and excess skin is surgically removed.  Supplementary abdominal Liposuction is often performed in conjunction with the procedure, resulting in patients also losing a number of inches from their waist.

In a full tummy tuck, a horizontal incision is typically made just above the pubic bone, and a second incision is made around the navel. Excess fat above the belly button is usually removed with liposuction, whereas excision is used to remove it from the pubic area.Being a major and intricate surgery, it typically takes patients 2-3 weeks to feel back to themselves physically.

With a mini tummy tuck however, the recovery process is less strenuous and most patients are able to return to their regular work in 1-2 weeks, given a few restrictions for exercise. The resulting scar from the procedure is also less visible than with a full tummy tuck because it is not as wide, though the length will vary according to individual needs. Both procedures have considerable advantages when performed by a skilled and board certified plastic surgeon. Ultimately, the procedure that is right for you comes down to your individual condition and goals.
