Brachioplasty, or arm lift surgery, is one of the only ways to address upper arm sag
How to create a leaner body contour with more muscular definition
An arm lift, or Brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes excess fat and skin in the upper arms
An arm lift enables you to
- Get rid of stubborn fat in the arms.
- Tighten loose skin.
- Give you a more proportionate appearance.
- Wear short sleeves without embarrassment.
Brachioplasty has been scientifically proven to fulfill its promises of improving the contour of your upper arms. In 2010, surgeons at the Emory University School of Medicine noted an increasing demand for brachioplasty. The surgeons conducted the study, An outcome analysis of brachioplasty techniques following massive weight loss[1], recording patient satisfaction levels at an average of 16 months following surgery.
Results of the study found that 94% of the men and women who had brachioplasty:
- *Experienced a boost in their self-esteem.*
- *Were more comfortable wearing short sleeved shirts.*
- *Would undergo the procedure again.*
*The patients rated their overall satisfaction with a score of 4.3 out of 5, with an astounding 4.9 out of 5 for symptomatic improvement from their arm surgery–indicating that the procedure did successfully achieve the results for which it was designed. Research has proven the effectiveness of Brachioplasty.*

Consultation
Your surgeon will collect all relevant information and discuss your goals. During this stage, you will be asked questions related to your medical history, use of alcohol, drugs and tobacco and the medication or vitamins you currently take. Take advantage of this time to voice any of your concerns regarding the surgery and ask questions you may have regarding the treatment and results.
Preparing
In the time leading up to your arm lift surgery, your surgeon may ask you to take certain steps to ensure the success of the procedure. You may need to avoid or begin taking specific medications and/or supplements, stop smoking, undergo lab tests or a medical evaluation and follow a specific dietary plan. You should also make arrangements to have a friend or family member pick you up from your appointment and help you out at home for at least the first night of recovery.
Your surgery
The procedure takes about three hours. General anesthesia is administered.
Before the surgery begins you will have discussed whether to undergo intravenous or general anesthesia. Once your choice of anesthetic has been administered, your surgeon will make incisions (usually to the inside and back of the arm) that allow for a tightening and reshaping of the supportive tissues underneath the skin. Internal and external sutures are applied after the skin has conformed to the new arm contour. If your arm lift requires fat removal, your surgeon will also use liposuction or traditional excision techniques.

Following your surgery
Dressings will be applied to the operating area and, in some cases, a thin tube may be placed under the skin to drain excess blood or fluid. Your surgeon will let you know whether absorbable sutures or stitches have been used. Traditional stitches will need to be removed after one to two weeks.
Before coming home, you’ll receive post-surgical care instructions. You may be given prescriptions that assist with discomfort, the healing process or help ward off infection. You’ll also receive details on when to resume normal activities and exercise.
Your results
*You’ll notice the difference in your appearance almost immediately, but will have to wait for bruising and swelling to reduce before the change becomes completely clear. Results are long lasting and can be best maintained by sticking to a regime of healthy eating and regular exercise. Some firmness will be lost over time with age, but the benefits of your lift will remain for a long time, giving you upper arms with improved shape and tone.*
Risks
Your surgeon will describe the risks inherent to arm lift surgery so that you understand whether or not the procedure is right for you. Risks include infection, bleeding, unfavourable scarring, skin loss, persistent pain, blood clots and other issues that could require additional surgery. Despite the general safety of this procedure, it’s essential that patients be well informed of any problems that may arise.
