    How to stop excessive sweating?

Hyperhidrosis treatment is a nonsurgical procedure involving BOTOX® injections to eliminate excessive sweating

    What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis (or excessive sweating) impacts the lives of one out of every hundred people. This condition can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. For many suffers, regular, nearly pain-free BOTOX® injections provide a safe and reliable method of treatment.

    What causes hyperhidrosis?

Everyone sweats as part of a natural process that keeps us from overheating and damaging our bodies. However, the glands that regulate and trigger sweating can become overactive, causing some people to suffer from excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). Typically, hyperhidrosis affects the face, feet, palms of the hands, armpits and trunk of the body. Sufferers usually begin to develop symptoms when young and, without treatment, are forced to deal with the condition throughout their entire lives.

The specific cause of this condition is unknown, but medical research has found that many hyperhidrosis sufferers have unusual sweat glands that cause sweat to secrete at a rate of up to ten times higher than the average person. This has led most physicians to identify overactive sweat glands as the primary cause.

BOTOX® is formulated with botulinum toxin, a substance that is able to interfere with the transmission of signals sent to glands and muscles. Because hyperhidrosis sufferers are afflicted by overactive sweat glands, BOTOX® is able to provide relief by interrupting the processes that cause those glands to secrete more sweat than they should. When this process is interrupted, excess sweating is significantly reduced.

There are an enormous number of benefits that come with BOTOX® hyperhidrosis treatment. Aside from the general improvement in your self confidence and comfort, some of these include the following:

    • Not having to wear dark clothing all the time.
    • Clean, dry clothes that you can comfortably wear throughout the day.
    • Raising your hand in classes, seminars or meetings without the embarrassment of exposing damp underarms.
    • Freedom from the body odours that come from clothes and skin that have accumulated dry sweat throughout the day.

    • Looking neat and clean by preventing sweat from dampening and displacing your hairstyle or causing makeup to run and smear.

    • Shaking hands with others without having to worry about sweaty palms.
    • Being able to write, draw or play sports without palm sweat interfering with your hand’s grasp on racquets, pens or bats.

    • Enjoying the feeling of dry feet and stopping foot odour caused by excessive sweating.

    BOTOX® for Excessive Sweating

    Are you a candidate?

Hyperhidrosis treatment with BOTOX® is suitable for men and women who are relatively healthy and suffer from overactive sweat glands on their forehead and/or body.

Common side effects include swelling and discomfort. These are temporary and will subside in a few days.

Rare risks of treatment include blood vessel rupture, inflammation and the migration of BOTOX® away from the injection site, which would affect other areas.

Your medical history will be reviewed to determine whether BOTOX® is suitable for you.

Your procedure will only take a few minutes to complete. A topical anesthetic may be applied, if necessary.

A specific number of BOTOX® units will be injected into the target areas.

BOTOX® provides complete safety, almost no recovery downtime and minimal discomfort. Most patients choose to return to their normal schedule immediately after treatment and side effects are usually limited to slight, temporary, localized bruising and swelling.

Results typically become noticeable within 48 hours. Sweating should subside to a desirable level and optimal results reached within one week following treatment. The benefits of BOTOX® carry on for roughly five to six months and can be maintained with follow up treatments.
