How to get back what you’ve lost or look even better than before
Mommy makeover surgery is a routine procedure that involves treatments that can enhance your body contour, including your breasts, mid-section and buttocks.
A*According to a study conducted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2011[1], approximately two out of three mothers would consider a mommy make-over. We have performed hundreds of mommy makeovers because many of our patients are mothers who have found healthy diet and exercise to be insufficient in achieving the transformation they desire.*
Few experiences in your life are as fulfilling and celebrated as when you become a mother. Your children mean the world to you and you bestow upon them all your love and attention. But in doing so, you’ve come to neglect another important person in your life–yourself. The changes your body experienced when you became a mother, such as stretch marks, loose skin, saggy breasts and growing bulges around your midsection, have made you feel unattractive and less desirable.
WHAT IS A MOMMY MAKEOVER?
A Mommy Makeover is a combination of procedures and treatments that are performed to restore a woman’s pre-childbirth body. Giving birth is beautiful but it is understandable that many women feel self-conscious or less desirable when their bodies have changed beyond their control and they cannot regain their former figure through diet and exercise.
Some of the common areas of the body that patients want to address include:
Changes to the Breasts
Changes to the breasts will occur during and after pregnancy whether a women chooses to breastfeed or not. When the breasts prepare for lactation the breasts fill with milk, replacing fatty tissue, and afterward breasts tend to sag more, or develop stretch marks. Many women find that their pre-pregnancy breast size is smaller after childbirth and breastfeeding.
A breast augmentation or breast lift are common procedures to address changes to the breasts that include losing volume or perkiness. For women that have much larger breasts after childbirth, a breast reduction may also help women to reclaim the size they were before having their baby and prevents the negative health effects of having breasts that are too large.
Changes to the Face
Some women notice their face has changed and looks older after giving birth and this can include new lines and wrinkles such as crow’s feet, smile lines, loss of fat and a gaunt appearance, thin lips and wrinkles around the lips.
Botox®, dermal fillers, and laser therapy are all non-surgical treatments our clinic may suggest to address fine lines and wrinkles after childbirth.
Changes to the Abdomen
The abdomen is where the majority of women notice changes in their body after they have given birth. While some women’s abdominal walls return to their pre-pregnancy state, many find that their lower abdomen and muscles protrude and they develop loose skin and stretch marks. Other women have had a c-section and this procedure can leave thick scarring with an overhang of tissue.
A tummy tuck procedure is best suited to deal with stretch marks, loose skin, lower abdominal protrusion and other changes to the abdomen after childbirth. Liposuction is also common to deal with stubborn fatty deposits that are impossible to lose with diet and exercise, due to hormonal changes.

Procedures may include one or more of the following:
Breast Augmentation to replace lost volume or enhance your bustline to become the size you’ve always wanted to be.
Breast Reduction to reclaim the size you were before pregnancy and reduce the strain overly large breasts has on your health.
Breast Lift to eliminate sagging and create a more youthful contour.
Liposuction to remove the fat you developed during and following pregnancy that won’t go away.
Tummy Tuck to banish saggy skin, bulging fat and recontour your waistline for a sleeker figure. Some stretchmarks may also be removed.
Butt Augmentation and Implants to enhance the desirability of your overall body contour.
Dermal Fillers to smooth away wrinkles, improve facial contours and plump up your lips.
Laser Treatment to remove lines, creases and wrinkles.
Changes to Outer Thighs, Inner Thighs, Back, Waist and Inner Knees
Increased fat on the thighs is a common concern for women after pregnancy, and hormonal changes can oftentimes prevent weight loss and toning in these areas through a traditional exercise and diet regimen.
Liposuction to the thighs and inner knees, to the flanks and mid back, will help to address changes in the outer thighs, inner thighs, back, waist and inner knees after childbirth.

WATCH ALL VIDEOSWHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR A MOMMY MAKEOVER
The best candidates for a Mommy Makeover are women that have weaned their babies, are healthy, and have quit smoking within four weeks of the procedure (not smoking is most important for breast lifts and tummy tucks).
IMPORTANT ISSUES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A MOMMY MAKEOVER
Multiple Procedures
We want our patients to achieve their aesthetic goals quickly and safely. There is a limit to how many procedures can be performed at the same time. The surgeon will plan the most logical sequence of surgeries to achieve the results you would like. Most of the time the surgeon will be able to propose a plan that offers the patient’s ideal results within one day of surgery but in some cases, some of these procedures may need to be spaced out with time to recuperate in between treatments.
Botox® should not be used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Talking to your Children about Surgery
Many women with young children choose to tell their kids they are having a surgery and simply explain they are doing so to feel better about themselves. Mothers and parents also choose to talk about the procedures to prepare their children for what they will look like when healing. Some women are concerned about the message they are sending to their children, particularly their daughters, but most find their children are understanding and realize that what their mother is doing is a personal choice, and they themselves do not have to have plastic surgery in the future if they choose not to do so.
RECOVERY AFTER MOMMY MAKEOVER SURGERY
The benefit of having multiple procedures performed at one time is that there is only one recovery period but it is still important to ensure you have a good support network behind you, to assist while you are relaxing and recovering. Being still, lying down and not lifting are very important to the healing process and many mothers are used to being very busy and active with their children. Some women may find it difficult having their family and friends help with some responsibility for a few weeks.
Depending on the procedure(s) performed, our Mommy Makeover patients can leave the clinic the day of their surgery, or the following morning, accompanied by a friend or family member that can stay with the patient for the following 24 hours. The recovery period will depend on the type of procedures and the amount of surgeries that are performed on the same day.
Typically most bandages come off within the first few days after surgery and compression bandages will be worn for a few weeks to keep swelling to a minimum. There may also be small tubes to collect drainage. Most procedures will result in swelling and bruising. Depending on the procedures performed, the surgeon will provide detailed aftercare instructions to manage pain, bruising and swelling throughout the duration of recovery.
*Postoperative appointments will also be scheduled a few days, 2 weeks, 2 months, and 6 months after surgery. Before and after pictures will be taken for the patient and surgeon’s review, to compare the results, as the final results often take 4 to 6 months.*
Four to six weeks of recovery is not uncommon, but this is a shorter amount of recovery than individual procedures spaced out.
