Breast Implants Sizes and Types
SAFETYMemoryGel® Breast Implants in Canada were approved for use in breast augmentation for women by the FDA in 2006. They have been available in Canada since 2000. They contain the latest generation of silicone and are filled with a uniquely formulated silicone gel created by Mentor. This cohesive gel is a very pliable solid that holds together in a safe and uniform manner, closely matching the natural feel of breast tissue.
The amount of silicone material released from MemoryGel® Breast Implants is minimal, further boosting patient safety. Implant leakage equals approximately 1/1,000th of the weight of a pin, is more than a million fold below established safety limits (based on results from FDA reviewed studies) and is more than a hundred fold below the amount of silicone absorbed in daily exposures to consumer products such as skin and hair care products, lotions or antiperspirants.
RuptureAs mentioned above, Mentor’s silicone gel formulation is made up of a cohesive substance similar to gelatin that maintains its shape, resembling a solid substance rather than a liquid one. This formulation helps to boost the silicone shell’s strength, elasticity and resilience and adheres to strict design requirements, meaning that ruptures are less common than in other silicone gel implants.
