A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a great solution for anyone looking to enhance the contour and volume of their buttocks. It is a relatively simple procedure and as a result, the recovery time is less than some cosmetic procedures. Prospective patients should know that they can resume their normal, daily lifestyles and physical activities shortly after the procedure, as long as certain precautions are taken to avoid injuring the newly transplanted fat cells.
In general, it is not recommended to engage in fat-burning activities early on during the recovery period as it can disturb the newly transferred cells. However, any weight training exercises that do not target the buttock area are permitted.
The following is a general timeline of the recovery process and the types of physical activities that are permissible following a butt augmentation procedure.
Weeks 1-3
For the first three weeks following a BBL procedure, it is important to avoid putting any direct pressure on the injected buttocks for more than a few minutes at a time. If you must sit, you should use a very soft air-cushion or a donut-shaped pillow to minimize the pressure on the buttocks. In fact, the best way to sit is with a pillow under your thighs, leaning a little forward; this way, the buttocks are not touching at all! When sleeping, be sure to lie on your stomach or side to prevent injuring your posterior. It is also advisable to take light walks to help reduce the risk of blood clots.
Weeks 3-6
During the second 3 weeks of the recovery period (weeks 3 to 6), you will likely be able to return to work. However, you should continue to be mindful of sitting and use a soft cushion when possible. In addition, it is important to continue sleeping on your stomach or side. With respect to physical exercise, light activities, such as walking, are permitted.
Week 6 – 6 months
During this time period, weight training is preferable to aerobic activities because the transferred fat cells are still stabilizing in the buttocks. You don’t want to lose any weight during the first 6 months. As a result, activities like Yoga, Pilates, and Weight Training are good, but you should avoid cardio and other fat burning exercises.
Beyond 6 months
As you approach the end of your recovery period after a BBL, more vigorous physical activities can be resumed. Since the transferred fat cells have stabilized and are thriving in their new location, they are able to withstand the high impact of exercises such as jogging or running. When you have fully recovered from the BBL, the transferred fat cells act like any other fat cells in the body. This means that large weight fluctuations can affect the volume of the buttocks. However, the size of your buttocks will remain proportionate to your figure as any weight gain or loss will impact your whole body. Furthermore, exercises that target the buttocks will help maintain your BBL results.
