Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels Introduction

Chemical skin peels are designed to treat common skin problems safely and effectively without requiring patients to undergo invasive surgery. This skin restoration treatment is predominantly comprised of alpha-hydroxy and beta-hydroxy acids, formulated in various ways to provide a wide range of benefits for specific skin issues. Chemical peels are also popular because they are comparatively an affordable option with minimal recovery downtime. Specific downtimes vary on the depth and type of the peel, but usually, side effects are very mild and don’t interfere with your normal day-to-day activities. If you are interested in Chemical Peels in Toronto, consider visiting Edelstein Cosmetic, a collective of expert plastic surgeons founded by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jerome Edelstein.

What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical skin peels, also known as medical skin peels, are designed to minimize and eliminate a variety of complexion issues. They are formulated with exfoliating agents (natural therapeutic acids) that, upon topical application, work to reduce and eliminate skin problems. Peels are a gentle form of skin resurfacing that is affordable and doesn’t require lengthy post-treatment downtime.

Superficial chemical peels are recommended alone or alongside complementary forms of skin treatment. When peels are added to a skincare regimen, they have been shown to improve the general quality of a patient’s skin texture while decreasing the number of blemishes within a short time. The use of chemical peels has been reliably shown to offer speedy improvement, resulting in high patient satisfaction.

Let’s Get Started

What’s the first step?

The first step at Edelstein Cosmetic for your Chemical Peel is coming in for a consultation. We focus on the SkinPerfect™ Rejuvenation Treatment. The private consultation begins by thoroughly analyzing your skin and complexion. We detail every blemish and imperfection that’s preventing you from having the beautiful complexion you deserve. Our master aesthetician pinpoints all the areas that need attention. A treatment plan is then devised to accurately resolve your concerns with the most effective and gentle solution.

What to Expect on the Day of a Chemical Peel Treatment

The SkinPerfect™ process starts with a complete cleansing of your face to remove all makeup and environmental pollution. After your skin is cleaned on the surface, it’s time to target the lower layers with a customized solution that can best be described as intense exfoliation. This deep exfoliator removes embedded dirt, debris, and dead skin cells clogging your pores. It also removes some of the signs of damage caused by the environment and reduces fine lines and minor discoloration.

The solution contains therapeutic ingredients that promote the creation of collagen and elastin at the cellular level, making skin healthier and firmer.

Chemical Peels Recovery

After your treatment, your skin will experience some swelling that will increase over the first two to three days, and it may feel like a sunburn when touched. Your skin will start to peel in little patches after two or three days. While this may make you look worse, it is part of the process and will heal in time, which can take up to seven days.

If you experience any swelling, you can use an ice pack (or a bag of frozen peas) on the treated area for 15 minutes, three or four times a day, for the first two days. You can also keep your head elevated with pillows while you sleep.

In order to maintain your refreshed skin, we recommend following these instructions:

  • Once you have removed the old ointment, gently remove it using cotton balls or a towel moistened with water. When you wash your face, use a gentle soap (like Dove or Ivory) and water.
  • Pat your face dry with a towel.
  • Apply regular Vaseline (the thick kind). Do this twice the day after the peel and three times each day after that. If you notice any areas getting dry, apply a little more Vaseline.
  • DO NOT pick at the peeling skin! This is incredibly important as it can potentially worsen your skin’s condition.
  • You should be able to shower by the third day after the procedure (e.g., if the peel is done on Tuesday, you can shower on Friday). Patients have cited a more tolerable experience by letting the water hit the back of their heads and run down onto their faces.
  • Once our head medical aesthetician decides your skin has healed, you may switch from regular Vaseline to your usual moisturizer.
