Two facial features that contribute greatly to the aesthetic appeal of the face are the cheeks and chin. They claim the majority of the structural foundation that comprises your face. If this structure lacks definition, volume or prominence, it can adversely affect the aesthetics of the entire face.Dr. Jeffrey A. Fialkov has been honoured with a number of awards recognizing his work by such professional organizations like The British Association of Plastic Surgeons and The Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons. His position as Associate Professor of the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto fosters a refinement of surgical skill to such a level that fully qualified Plastic Surgeons from Canada, the United States, Europe and the Middle East come to him for additional subspecialty training in advanced complex surgical techniques. Proven surgical skill, natural artistry and a sincere dedication to achieve your goals qualifies Dr. Fialkov to perform your facial contouring procedure with implants.UNIQUE FACIAL IMPLANTS
Dr. Fialkov custom shapes your implants to achieve the enhancement you want.
The implants are constructed from porous polypropylene, an advanced material that allows them to “take” to your facial structure better than other materials, such as silicone.
Silicone implants can cause the bone underneath it to erode and can also lead to chronic inflammation. For these reasons, Dr. Fialkov does not use silicone implants.
In his experience working with patients surviving trauma and complications, Dr. Fialkov has found that affixing the porous polypropylene implant to your bone prevents migration and other related complications.
A directional implant selection process is performed to ensure that the enhancement you want is accurate and remains in the right position.
THE AESTHETIC EFFECTS OF CHEEK IMPLANTSCheek implants can replace the loss of volume that occurs with age for a dramatic rejuvenation of the overall face.
In youth, the shape of our face resembles an inverted triangle, in which full cheeks and a rounded chin are the structural foundations of this contour. For females even in adulthood, this shape is generally deemed as attractive. However, the triangular or heart-like shape face undergoes a number of changes with age. The loss of volume in the cheeks reduces the desirable roundness and fullness present in youth, traits that have also been associated with femininity. Coupled with sagging skin along the jawline, a more rectangular shape results. Women find that their face becomes less feminine and thus less attractive in their advancing years.
For men, the aesthetic concern is different. While aging follows the same pattern, a more masculine contour is preferred, characterized by chiseled and angular cheeks that are smaller in size with higher elevation. Rounded, softer cheeks can feminize your face, therefore cheek implants may be used to replace the loss of elevation and maintain a more masculine facial contour with which you’ll be more content.
Younger patients may choose to receive cheek implants to modify the original structure of their face, making it more attractive in concordance to the elements of facial harmony and beauty.THE AESTHETIC EFFECTS OF CHIN IMPLANTS AND CHIN SURGERY – GENIOPLASTY AND MENTOPLASTYIn the study conducted by surgeons at the Department of Otolaryngology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Vertical Incision Intraoral Silicone Chin Augmentation, it was found that 100% of patients who received an implant to augment their chin were satisfied with their results, both functionally and aesthetically.
Enhancing the chin contour with an implant can achieve a dramatic improvement in appearance. The effects of chin plastic surgery are numerous:
Definition of the facial border
The chin (and the jawline) is the lowermost feature of the face. Minimal chin projection and a weak contour adversely affect the definition of the lower face, which may blend too much into the neck. By enhancing the chin with an implant, definition of the area is improved.
A more balanced facial profile
A chin implant can achieve harmony with other features, particularly the nose. All too frequently, patients who are unhappy with the size of their nose choose rhinoplasty as a solution, when in actuality, the prominence of their nose can be “offset” by an enhanced chin. A chin implant creates a pleasing result that satisfies patient expectations. In some cases, a rhinoplasty may be performed as well to optimize facial balance.A SPECIAL NOTE ON THE PRE-SURGERY PLANNING PROCESSFacial cosmetic surgery requires the utmost precision and accuracy in the operating room, with changes measured in millimetres. Reshaping and/or moving the chin to improve facial proportion is no exception. Therefore, in order to better plan for surgery and optimize the predictability of results, Dr. Fialkov has his genioplasty patients assessed cephalometrically by Dr. S. Smith, an orthodontist. This means that you will undergo special x-rays that show your chin position relative to the rest of your facial bones and soft tissues. Dr. Smith uses these x-rays to measure the ideal position of the chin and how far it needs to move forward, backward, up or down to achieve optimum facial proportion. By taking these measurements from x-rays preoperatively, Dr. Fialkov is able to move or augment your chin with maximal precision. This is a unique service that Dr. Fialkov is able to offer because of his expertise in craniofacial surgery.
When compared to photoimaging, this technique yields more accurate results because it is based on precise measurements taken from x-rays of your actual bone structure, which serves as the foundation of your facial contour.
As a consequence of this process and the resultant predictability of the outcome the satisfaction rate amongst Dr. Fialkov’s patients is extremely high.
Dr. Fialkov focuses on achieving facial symmetry for a more pleasing result.
