Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion Introduction

Microdermabrasion is one of the five most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures used to rejuvenate the skin’s condition. This procedure physically exfoliates dead skin from the surface of the body, revealing a smoother, brighter layer underneath, thereby eliminating age spots, light scars, or fine lines. Microdermabrasion isn’t as deep as a chemical peel, so it is better used for those requiring a smaller exfoliation depth. You’ll likely need several treatments if you have deeper targets and want to use microdermabrasion. If you are looking for microdermabrasion in Toronto, consider a consultation at board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jerome Edelstein’s clinic, Edelstein Cosmetic.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure for rejuvenating your skin. During the treatment, a provider uses a special instrument to gently sand away the superficial layer of your skin. You can get microdermabrasion on your face, neck, back, hands or chest. It helps reveal newer, undamaged skin, thickens the production of collagen, which keeps your skin firm, and helps catalyze the growth of new skin cells.

MicrodermabrasionFirst Step

What’s the first step?

Before your microdermabrasion procedure at Edelstein Cosmetic, you will have a consultation with our master medical aesthetician. At Edelstein Cosmetic, she will consult with you, discuss your health history, your aesthetic goals, concerns, and expectations, and will finally examine your target area, recommending the technique they would like to use. They will also explain any pros and cons of the procedure and outline what recovery might look like. They might also take before photos of the target area. Once they deem you to be a suitable candidate, they will create a treatment plan for you and give you a fee quote.

If you have recently received a chemical peel or another invasive treatment, we recommend you wait a few weeks before scheduling your microdermabrasion treatment.

What to Expect on the Day of a Microdermabrasion Treatment

On the day of your microdermabrasion, your provider and their staff will welcome you and get you settled in the treatment room, going over the plan once more. Microdermabrasion isn’t painful, so a topical anesthetic isn’t necessary. You will just feel a gentle scratching, sucking, or vibrating sensation on your skin.

Your provider will use one of two techniques:

Crystal microdermabrasion

In this technique, tiny crystals are shot through a tube to disrupt the top layer of dead skin cells, which are then vacuumed up through the same tube. It’s literally like sandblasting in concept, but much gentler on your skin.

Diamond Microdermabrasion

In this technique, a diamond-tipped wand vacuums up dead skin from the top layer of the skin.

The entire treatment usually lasts about half an hour to forty minutes.

Microdermabrasion Recovery

There is no downtime after this treatment.

Your provider will recommend staying out of the sun for 24 hours and might provide a calming gel for minor redness, swelling, or sensitivity.

Most people initially get between one and four treatments to achieve their desired results. Monthly treatments after that can help you maintain the results.

Microdermabrasion Cost

How Much Does Microdermabrasion Cost in Toronto?

The cost of Microdermabrasion in Toronto depends on the area being targeted, the provider’s fees, and the technique used, among other factors. We recommend that you schedule your consultation at Edelstein Cosmetic so that you can receive a customized plan that offers the most cost-efficient treatment.
