When it comes to cosmetic surgery, breast augmentation is one of the most commonly requested procedures. For many women, the size, shape and “perkiness” of their breasts is directly tied to how feminine they feel. While breast augmentation surgery can be a highly rewarding experience, there are a few things that every woman considering this procedure should know.
What is a breast lift?
Also called a mastopexy, the goal of this surgery is raise and restore sagging breasts to a more youthful position. This may result in additional cleavage, however the size of the breasts will remain the same. The main drawback of the procedure, is that there will be more scarring than there is with breast augmentation.
Who can benefit from a breast lift?
Women with severely sagging breasts can see great improvements with a breast lift. For those with only slight sagging, the amount of scarring they will see from the surgery may not be worth the improvement that they see in breast position.
What is breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a surgery that increases a woman’s cup size by inserting either a saline or silicone implant inside the breast tissue. There are several sizes and shapes of implants available to help women achieve their desired look.
Who can benefit from a breast augmentation?
Woman who wish to have a larger breast size can benefit from breast augmentation. Also, women who have a slight problem with sagging, may benefit from having implants. In fact, since scarring is significantly less with augmentation than it is with a breast lift, this may be the preferable option.
I’m still not sure which procedure is right for me – what now?
For women who have very badly sagging breasts, the decision to get a breast lift can be an easy one. Likewise, for women who are very unhappy with the small size of their breasts, it can be easy to make the decision for breast augmentation.
The truth is however, that most women do not fall into these extremes. That’s where the advice of a highly experienced cosmetic surgeon with a keen aesthetic eye can prove extremely valuable. During a consultation, a surgeon can examine a woman’s breasts, talk to her about her personal goals and then make recommendations based on what he thinks would be the best option for her.
