Deciding to have breast augmentation surgery in Toronto is the beginning of exciting changes. At Edelstein Cosmetic, our best plastic surgeons will help you make the right breast implant choice through detailed discussion of your body goals, assessing your natural tissue and giving recommendations to achieve the desired results.
Here, we will briefly provide an overview of the diverse types of implants, textures and shapes available.
Types Of Implants
Saline breast implants: These are filled with sterile saline (salt water), and though they are more prone to show rippling, they are less expensive and able to be placed through extremely small incisions, then filled internally. The use of saline breast implants provides a uniform shape, firmness and touch.
Silicone cohesive gel breast implants: These are currently the most popular type of breast implant. They are filled with cohesive silicone gel, which provides a natural feel, similar to real breast tissue. If the shell were to break, the gel remains within and does not collapse. Silicone cohesive gel implants are available in different shapes and projections. The round implants are currently most commonly used (see below).
Textures Of Implants
Smooth breast implants: these implants give a very soft and natural feel because they move with the breast tissue.
Textured breast implants: these implants were designed to have the body grow into their rough surface and lock them in place.
Shapes Of Implants
In modern Toronto breast augmentation procedures, there are two styles of silicone gel implants: round or teardrop shaped. As their names suggest, a round implant is more circular in shape and a teardrop implant is more anatomically shaped and firmer. Round implants move more naturally. For instance, they are flatter when lying down and appear more teardrop-like when standing upright. There is also no risk of rotation because of its circular shape.
The advice and guidance provided will help you feel more comfortable with the options and more confident with your choice. Regardless of which type of breast implant you choose, you are in good hands with our highly experienced, board certified plastic surgeons.
