Life After A Breast Augmentation In Toronto

Now that you’ve undergone a breast augmentation at one of Toronto’s top plastic surgery clinics, you certainly expect to experience changes in your daily routine for a little while and really positive changes long term.

The recovery phase is somewhat dependent on the skill of your surgeon and their ability to minimize tissue trauma. At Edelstein Cosmetic, our expert plastic surgeons use advanced tools, a blood-less breast augmentation technique and a Rapid Recovery method. All these can ensure less pain after a breast augmentation so that you are able to return to your regular, daily routines within a week post-op.During your recovery period, it is important to remember that every patient is unique, thus each body heals at different speeds. In general, it will take three to six months for your new breasts to completely heal. The first stage of recovery is the first few days following the procedure. Patients are typically mobile and able to physically move objects of reasonable weight.

During this time, pain management is covered by medication and you will experience some swelling local to the area. Following instructions carefully will give your body its best chance to recover without any risk of complications. Most patients are able to return to work within a week after surgery, two weeks if their job is very physical.

The next stage of recovery is usually characterized by the clearance of bruising and swelling around the two weeks post-op time. If a tensor bandage was placed, it can usually be removed at 2 weeks post-procedure.From three to six weeks after surgery, patients can begin aerobic and lower body exercises but upper body workouts and heavy lifting will need to wait until at least 6 weeks. Finally, by three to four months after your breast augmentation, the implants will have settled beautifully into their intended positions. Any feeling of discomfort will have dissipated and you will be able to fully enjoy your transformation. After breast augmentation, you can expect a follow-up appointment scheduled two to 3 weeks after surgery, then again, a few months out and so on. These appointments are important because it allows our plastic surgeons to assess your progress, celebrate the changes you see as you drop and fluff, and review important restrictions or tips for care.

Finally, it is essential to know that life after a breast augmentation surgery can mean additional surgeries. You may be aware that no implants last forever. Sometimes, the need for an additional breast augmentation surgery is due to a change in breast size.

On average, the newest generation of silicone cohesive implants last upward of 20 years in patient’s bodies. Though there is no expiry date, we do recommend that you maintain regular physical exams as advised by your primary care physician and any breast imaging required in the future. At Edelstein Cosmetic, we value the importance of maintaining a healthy, long-term relationship with our patients and pride ourselves in our patient’s trust. Beginning with your in-depth consultation, to your final post op appointment, we’ll take good care of you.
