If you are one of the many people considering a tummy tuck in Toronto, you probably have a growing list of questions about what the procedure actually entails. To help you make a fully informed decision, here are answers to the top 5 questions we hear from those exploring the idea.

What Exactly Happens During The Procedure?

Also known as abdominoplasty, the tummy tuck is an outpatient procedure, performed under general anesthesia that typically takes around 3 hours.

During the procedure, one incision is made just above the pubic area, and another around the navel. The length of the first incision will depend on the extent of work being performed. Through the incisions, the skin flap is then lifted to allow the surgeon to bring the abdominal muscles together and stitch them into the place.

After they have been tightened, the excess skin and fat is trimmed, and the remaining skin is pulled taut over the abdomen to create a flatter and smoother tummy. Liposuction is usually done at the same time for any remaining fat deposits.

What Is The Recovery Period Like?

Immediately following the procedure, the abdominal area will likely be swollen and uncomfortable. However, you will receive pain medication to keep you comfortable or the first couple of weeks.

For the first few days, you will be instructed to avoid standing up straight and will have to remain slightly hunched over. However, as the skin and muscle stretch over the next few days, you will be able to sit and stand comfortably again.

Typically, there is not too much bruising after a Toronto tummy tuck. However, in cases where liposuction has been performed as well, there may be more bruising.

Although it will vary depending on the extent of work done, most patients are comfortable returning to work around two weeks after the procedure.

What Does It Typically Cost?

Although the price varies from person to person, the average price of a full tummy tuck in Toronto is $9500.

Since there are different types – mini, full and FAB, they all involve varying degrees of work and therefore come with different price tags.

A variety of other factors are also taken into account when pricing the surgery including operating room fees, anesthesia, and supplies.

What Is A Mini Tummy Tuck?

It is a less invasive procedure than a full tummy tuck.

A mini tummy tuck targets the area below the belly button. During the procedure a smaller amount of skin is removed than with a full tummy tuck.

As a result, the scar is shorter and can be placed lower, making it a popular choice for those who do not need extensive work, but need to target the lower abdomen.  An additional bonus is that an incision is not needed around the belly button.

Am I Candidate?

The main factor that determines if you are eligible for any type of plastic surgery is that you are in overall good health. Beyond that, if you have loose abdominal skin resulting from pregnancy or weight loss, you may be a good candidate. The best to find out if you are a suitable candidate is to get a customized quote is to contact our clinic and set up a private assessment with Dr. Edelstein or Dr. Jindal.
