At our clinic, breast augmentation surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. With this treatment, you will feel absolutely no pain during the procedure. In our clinic’s many years of operation, we have never had the anaesthesia fail to work, or had anyone wake up during surgery. We also keep you under for the shortest time possible, and wake you up immediately after the surgery, in the operating room. Throughout the entire breast augmentation process, we take precautions to provide you with a safe, optimal dosage of all medications. This way we can ensure that your body is prepared for the surgery, that you are comfortable during the operation, and that you have a speedy recovery afterwards.
Certified Anaesthesiologists
At Edelstein Cosmetic, we always have a certified, experienced anaesthesiologist in the operating room during a major surgery like breast augmentation. Although none of our patients have ever had a problem with anaesthesia during surgery, we are prepared to deal with any situation that may arise. Our specialists have many years of experience administering and overseeing anaesthesia in both hospitals and private practice settings. They are professionals who have worked with the elderly and with people who have serious medical problems, and they are qualified to respond appropriately in the unlikely chance of a patient having a problem with anaesthesia during surgery. It is also important to let us know before your surgery if you have ever had any problems with anaesthesia.
Going Under
The process starts with the anaesthesiologist inserting an intravenous (IV) line into your arm. You will receive medication to relax and put you to sleep through this line. You will also be given fluids and medications through the IV during the surgery, as needed. Throughout the procedure, we will maintain the general anaesthesia using gases given to you through a mask. We use laryngeal masks to avoid inserting a tube into your throat, which means you will not have throat discomfort after the surgery. We only use endotracheal tubes (the type that is put in your throat) in special circumstances. During the surgery, we monitor your awareness and level of comfort using specialized equipment.
After you are comfortable and under anaesthesia, we inject a local anaesthetic to freeze the breast area. The freezing effect will continue for some time after you wake up, so you will feel only mild discomfort after the procedure. When the surgery is complete, the anaesthesiologist will turn off the gas and wake you up immediately in the operating room. It will take about a minute for you to wake up.
After The Surgery
After the surgery, you will be moved to the recovery room for about 30 to 45 minutes, until you are completely awake. You may feel a little foggy at first, but the minimal use of anaesthesia will decrease the risk that you will feel nauseous. You can go home the same day after your procedure, but you will not be able to drive because of the medication. So, you should arrange to have someone available to take you home after your appointment and make sure you are comfortable.
When you elect to have a breast augmentation procedure with us, you can be sure that our proactive approach before surgery, our limited use of anaesthesia, and our industry-leading surgical techniques will all work together to keep you healthy and safe while in surgery, and minimize the amount of heavy medication needed during your recovery.
