For women, breast augmentation is often about more than just attaining very large breasts: it’s about gaining confidence, a healthy look, and becoming a better version of themselves. In recent years, patients’ preferences have shifted from the majority asking for very prominent, high profile breast implants to a strong interest in creating natural-looking, modestly fuller breasts. Breast augmentation remains a very popular procedure moving into 2017, as more women become aware of the flexible cosmetic options available. Online media is helping to fuel both the popularity of cosmetic procedures and creating a more open, informed discussion about the benefits and possibilities. According to a report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation continues to be the top cosmetic surgical procedure in America. Here is a look at the leading breast augmentation trends in 2017:
The Latest In Saline Implants
The newest type of saline implant is called the Ideal Implant. It has a complex structure, and was designed to give the implant the look and feel of silicone, without actually being filled with silicone cohesive gel.
Smaller Breast Implants
According to numerous sources, the leading trend going into 2017 is smaller implants. Patients electing to have breast augmentation are tending to choose smaller implants, with the aim of gaining about a cup size increase in volume. Even celebrities who are famous for having large breasts have reportedly been moving this fashion forward by choosing to replace their existing larger implants with more modestly-sized ones.
Choosing lower-profile implants can be a great way to enhance your natural breast shape and figure. Round cohesive silicone gel implants are very versatile and can be used to gain as much or as little breast volume as you wish. With their soft feel and more natural movement, round implants are an excellent option for achieving a shapely, natural look.
Large And Lifted
At the same time that some celebrities are trading in their high profile implants for smaller ones, another study by the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) indicates that large, high profile breasts are becoming increasingly popular with some American women. This interest may stem from a desire to connect with celebrity culture, and to maintain a youthful appearance into the future. Meanwhile, breast lifts are rising in popularity as well, with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reporting that the number of breast lift procedures has doubled since 2000. Combining a breast lift with breast augmentation can provide lift and volume for a fuller, higher look.
It’s important to note that while some women’s bodies may be able to accommodate very full high-profile implants, this option is not advisable for everyone. When helping patients choose their ideal implant size, Dr. Edelstein and Dr. Jindal consider the type and quantity of breast tissue, and the beginning shape and size of the breasts in order to determine how large you can go. This is all part of a process called Dimensional Breast Augmentation, which is the best way to ensure a safe, natural-looking enhancement, and faster recovery times.
Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation
This procedure involves using liposuction to remove fat from one part of a woman’s body, and moving the fatty tissue to her breasts in order to enlarge them. This option tends to appeal to women because it creates less scarring than implants, and the breasts will feel more natural, since they are enhanced using the patient’s own tissue. Current health, fitness, and diet trends focusing on natural remedies, cosmetics, and lifestyles may be responsible for the growing interest in this more “natural” form of breast augmentation. In fact, while silicone implants continue to lead the way in breast implants of choice around the world, global trends indicate that in many countries fat transfer breast augmentation has significantly outpaced saline implants in popularity.
Fat transfer breast augmentation, however, is not permanent upon completion of the procedure. This is because the patient’s body metabolizes about half of the repurposed fat within six months of surgery. Only about 50% of the fat stays in the breasts. Therefore, this procedure can only provide modest gains for patients. For more gain, additional surgeries may be required (which can be cost prohibitive). However, this may be a good option if you are looking for a very natural and slight increase in size. For now, this procedure is more costly than silicone or saline implants, so its popularity remains significantly lower than traditional implants.
