If you are a good candidate for Belkyra treatment, your injector will carefully map out the treatment area under your chin and as many as 50 injections in this space can be given per treatment. Up to 6 Belkyra treatments may be required but many patients note significant improvement after only 2 or 3 treatments. The customization of your personal treatment is based on your anatomy and your needs. Your doctor will determine the number of Belkyra treatments for you to have. Each appointment for Belkyra treatment should be spaced a month or more apart.
Immediately post treatment, swelling will appear under the chin and last a few days to a week. This is a normal effect of Belkyra and actually demonstrates that it is working. Minor redness and pain resolve within a few days. Some patients report feeling hardness under the chin.
Belkyra may not be a suitable treatment for under chin fat if accompanied by excess, loose skin. If platysmal bands, loose and hanging skin under the chin is a concern for you, treatment with Belkyra will not address it, unfortunately. This treatment removes excess fat only and will not tighten or remove excess skin. If your physician feels that Belkyra treatment will leave you with more extensive skin laxity under the chin, they may recommend that you consider a surgical procedure to remove it and tighten this area, along with fat removal.
